How to see why a candidate declined a placement job

When a candidate declines a placement job, they are asked to give a reason. Here is what the candidate sees and where that reason appears in your dashboard.

When a candidate declines a placement job, they are now asked to share why. That reason is saved to their application, so your team can see at a glance why a candidate passed on a role and follow up with your client accordingly. This article explains what the candidate goes through when they decline, and where the reason shows up on your side.

Where to find the decline reason in your dashboard

1. Open Placement Jobs from your agency dashboard and locate the job.
2. On the job, select View Applicants to open the applicants table.
3. The candidate who declined will show a status of Declined, and the Decline Reason column displays the reason they entered. From there you can review the reason alongside the rest of the applicant's details and decide how you want to follow up.

If you would like to adjust the wording candidates see on these buttons and popups, see Customize the button text and popup messages candidates see when they express interest in a position.

What a candidate sees when declining a placement job

From their portal, a candidate opens a placement job and selects I'm not interested. They receive a quick acknowledgement, and the job then updates to show that they aren't interested, along with two choices: Change My Response or Decline this Position. Declining is a deliberate second step, so a candidate who only marks that they aren't interested has not yet formally declined.

When the candidate selects Decline this Position, a popup appears that reads "Are you sure you want to decline the position? Please let us know why," with a field to enter the reason. Choosing Yes submits the decline, and the candidate sees a final message confirming that their response has been received and is being processed with the client. Note that declining replaces any earlier response the candidate had on that job.
